The Doctoral School of Sciences for the Engineer (ED SPI), is one of the essential actors of the coherence and the structuring of the sector of Sciences for the Engineer. This sector corresponds to the existence of university courses in the 'Master' cycle of the three local engineering schools (SIGMA, ISIMA, Polytech) and two IUTs with scientific departments.
It brings together a potential of 80 faculty-researchers authorized to lead the researches, 4 laboratories including 3 UMR of the CNRS for about 224 doctoral students and 45 PhD theses supported annually.

The Doctoral School of Fundamental Sciences (ED SF) was created in 1994 and brings together all research laboratories of Clermont Auvergne University in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Sciences of the Universe.
It relies on a human potential of 450 permanent staff with a supervisory potential of about 200 researchers and teacher-researchers. About 150 doctoral students are enrolled in this doctoral school.
